These safety nail plates have a sharp pointed prong and are designed to hammer it into the front of the stud to protect wires or pipes that pass through the stud. The wires and pipes are then shielded from any screws or nails that may be applied to the area when installing the dry wall.  16 gauge as required by the NEC.  These meet NEC and NSPC.
